Stevie Ray Vaughan’s musical genius endures through his many recordings. With that in mind this memorial to the late Texas guitarist concentrates on the man behind the musician, electing to depict him in a reflective standing pose.
The relaxed figure is unapologetically realistic. But a contrasting element, an extended bronze shadow showing Vaughan playing guitar, subtly alludes to his often-pyrotechnic musical legacy.
Site details were designed by the artist and Tom Randall, a landscape architect for the City, with the aim of creating a peaceful enclave within a large park. A key decision involved employing a low pedestal encouraging a direct egalitarian interaction with visitors.
