Among twenty snowy mountains,
The only moving thing
Was the eye of the blackbird.
stanza 1, Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird, Wallace Stevens
Fourteenth Way bridges the worlds of poetry and sculpture, and was created for ‘Trainscapes’, an exhibit where working model trains travelled through a succession of unique sculptural vignettes.
2300 threads are suspended in space. Over 3000 paper letters flutter in the ambient air currents. Text is snowing. A blackbird hovers, casting a shadow (void) on the implied mountainscape below. The bottommost elements aggregate into passages from Stevens’ classic poem.
